Turning Twenty-Seven

Oh! And, I turned 27 last week! Twenty-seven, wow. It came and went...in the heat of all the new things...which is all things in my life right now. I can't believe I became a mother before this birthday came. Twenty-seven - it will be my year of newness.

Motherhooooood...what a wild ride!

I am definitely in 'adaptation' mode right now. It has been a tremendous adjustment - a huge learning curve! It is all so new for me - it is definitely different than anything I have ever known. During the tough spells (i.e. - crabby, crying), when there is nothing I can do to soothe him, it elicits a very powerless feeling. Knowing how much pain he may bein is just a painful for me, i think, as it is for him!! Noah is doing super great overall - he, generally is a very happy baby, full of smiles and expressions. I thoroughly enjoy my sleep, so nighttime is no longer one of my favorite times! Sleep deprivation stinks! Everything it is harder to do with a groggy brain.

Motherhood asks you to be entirely selfless and brave! One of my girlfriends, Rebecca Ueltschey sent me this blog address - two mothers with great words of wisdom. It has some great truths in it - 2 Crazy Mamas.

Noah had his one week check up on Jan. 8th. He had gained 1/2 pound. The doctor nearly fell out! He said that babies generally loose weight their first week, not gain it, and very unusually at that rate. Folks, we have an eater! My days, as it goes, are filled with feeding baby, dirty diapers, burping ---> repeat! And, feeding can be particuarly time consuming, especially when he is so happy to eat! Gets that from his mom I think!

THANK YOU, GRANDMA'S!
I want to be sure to take a moment here and send a huge heart felt THANK YOU to two of Noah's fantastic Grandmothers for all their help and support this month - Betty and Denise were really there for our new family through the thick and thin - through the pooppy diapers (and this kid has the MOTHERLOAD) and crusty showers that needed cleaning before our big move...to dinner preparations and much much more. We want to sincerely thank them for all their hard work, love and support! We are so blessed with our family!!

Things I am Learning

(1) Fear of Gas --> A few gas bubbles in an infant elicit a whole new kind of fear in a person. I am learning about all the turmoil these ghastly gasses can bring about when your stomach is the size of a marble. Real heartache and pain for both infant and mother!

(2) Fear in General --> The magnitude of all that we are responsible for is still seeping in...

(3) Gratitude beyond mearsure...'Nuff said. I still can't believe a new tiny person is in our lives - lying next to me...

(4) Poof! Time is now measured in some new way - the hours and days just melt away. A whole two weeks have passed, but it really seems more like a lifetime has passed.

We are very happy :) Twenty-seven will be a good year. A year full of surprises...and new things.

A quote to consider...

"When I approach a child, he inspires in me two sentiments; tenderness for what he is, and respect for what he may become."

- Louis Pasteur
